Cast-iron tubbings for Jensen potash mineshaft (Canada)

PROJECT GOAL

Production of spheroidal graphite cast iron tubbings for main and service shafts of Potash mine under construction in Canada.

FEATURES

DESCRIPTION:

The Jansen project represents the underground potash deposit development in east-central Saskatchewan. The mine will become the biggest potash mine in the world ensuring the total annual output of 8 million tonnes of merchantable potash ore.

In February 2011 the project reached the stage of feasibility study, and the first extraction is planned in 2018. Reaching the level of output capacity will be done in three stages with esteem value of 12 bln. USD. The expected operational lifetime is over 50 years.

PROJECT DATA:

  • Number of mine shafts: 2
  • Depth of shafts: 1000 m
  • Product: potash ore
  • Mine shaft sinking: DMC Mining Services

DTS CONTRIBUTION:

In September 2012 Dneprotyazhmash, PJSC (the tubbing producing plant of DTS Group) entered into the contract to supply 3700 tonnes of spheroidal graphite cast-iron tubbings for main and service mine shafts of BHP Jansen mine at Blairmore minefield.

The Blairmore minefield stretches out at the depth of 430 to 490 m and comes with the bed of clean sand interstratified with potash ore under the pressure of 1200-1500 psi designating these strata as unstable ones, thus necessitating the enhanced, more stable waterproof lining for Blairmore minefield.

DTS successfully produced and made a full scale supply of tubbings that passed acceptance by customer quality control group at the premises of manufacturing plant.
