Third rail
Third rail is a rigid contact wire, designed for sliding contact with the current collector of a rolling stock. (electric locomotive, motor car)
Third rails are manufactured in accordance with 27.1-19305558-003:2009 technical requirements, deveoped by "Dneprotechservice" SPF under the process regulations set on the manufacturer enterprise (EVRAZ "DMZ Petrovskogo" PJSC, Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine). Low carbon M-grade rail steel is used for contact rail manufacturing, as it has low ohmic resistance. Rail profile testing showed positive results on chemical constitution, geometrics and specific electrical resistance.
The main application of the third rail — is ensuring operation of underground railway transport in subway tunnels. Apart from that, third rail is used for energy supplies for lifting and warehouse transporting devices, cableways, electric hoists, machine tools, ligting systems and similar hardware.
The main advantage of the third rail — uninterrupted current collection under specified speeds in all atmospheric conditions.
